GermanyGermany is a Western European country between the Netherlands and Poland. It is Europe's largest economy and second leading most populous nation. (Germany) Germany has many different regions with various histories of folk music and dance. In the past Germany was separated by multiple provinces. It was not until the 1800s when the country became united. Germany has had many influences on traditions because of the power struggle within Europe that has lead to two World Wars. (Germany) Folk music has been considered a symbol of pride and nationality, especially in East Germany. (German Folk Music).
They call German Folk Music, Volsmusik, which is a term used in Germany that literally means the "people's music". (German Folk Music) Some of the different styles of German Folk Music include Oom-pah, Swabie, Bavaria, and Danish-Germans. (Copy of German Folk Music) Each different province of folk music bring a different history with it. Two of the traditional styles of music have become synonymous within Germany. These two styles, Volksmusik and Oom-pah, have become very popular as well. (Traditional German Music) Originally these songs were songs of emigration, apprentices, and work songs.
